YESSSSSSS MY DREAMS

[ Lunar New Year means busy shops, busy airports, busy streets. Taiwan made her preparations in advance, but nationwide events aside, there's not much to do when no one else will be visiting her own home. And by home, she doesn't mean this island, no. She means her small condominium in the heart of Taipei, or her small rest house up in the mountains. Maybe she should pay Vietnam a visit? Pretend to be a distant relative and invite herself to each home? Her heart sinks again, and maybe this is what China means when she says she is still young.

But the doorbell rings, and her heart soars. She scrambles to greet her unexpected visitor— ]

Oh!

[ Her eyes light up. ]

Hong Kong! You've grown so tall! [ they literally saw each other last week ] Oh, I'm so happy...

[ She gasps. ]

Aiya, but the place is still a mess. I didn't think anyone was coming over.

[ Still, she shakes her head and takes him by the hand, only to start pushing his back and leading him into the living room. ]

Come in, come in! Have you eaten yet? What would you like to drink? [ She bounces on her feet. ] Ahaha, yay! Hong Kong is here!

[ Letting that "You've grown so tall" comment slide, it's kind of cute how excited Taiwan is just because he's dropping by.

Too bad he's going to rain on her parade in a few seconds. ]

Of course, I'd come to visit. Gung hay fat choy. Where is my red envelope?

[ Hong Kong even has the nerve to extend a hand out as if expecting to give it to him. Whether she does give him something or not, his hand then claps against hers in a low-five gesture. ]

Just kidding, Happy New Year.

Hey! [ But he says it's a joke, and he's always like this, so she laughs along. ] Happy New Year. Macau came over earlier, so he took all my red envelopes before you got here! [ this is false ]

[ He easily catches that white lie since Taiwan did mention not expecting any guests to come. He can keep playing along. ]

Heeeh? Really?

[ If anybody is going to do the teasing, it'll be him. ]

Maybe I should fly over to Macau's place this year and treat him to my surprise instead.

Huh?

[The door shuts behind her. Her smile crumbles as he crushes her hopes and dreams. Hong Kong, you monster.]

Wait! What surprise? [ She grabs hold of his shoulders and shakes him. ] Hong Kong, um, I still have a lot left over! I gave you the biggest share, I promise! Hong Kong? Hong Kong, tell meeeee.

[ Please have better dreams.

To his credit, he's not a total monster. He could have kept teasing her, but he's kind of weak to that face. Just a little. So after a brief shakedown, he gives in. ]

Alright, alright. I'll save something for you, too. But you have to wait until tonight.

[ That means he's staying over at her place for the whole day. ]

[It's fine. The color in her eyes comes back as soon as he says the magic words.]

Then that means... [ The whole day! She leaps forward to catch him in a tight hug and rubs her cheek all over his own. ] Aww, you do care! You're so cute. You've grown so handsome, but you're still so cute! Ooh, I could just eat you up...
